We have made up some special treats for all our readers. Gifts you can print and give to your friends, flatmates and relatives for under $1 (just the cost of printing). You don't need to be a member of the Savings Vault to access them. They are our present to you.

Canteen Price List

Jo Pritt, a recent Hint of the Week winner, saved $700 in six months since using a 'canteen' system at home:

"This is how it works. We write down the actual cost of the snack food. Each child has a daily 'junk food' allowance of $1.00 to buy food for their lunch box, when they get home from school, and so on.

"For example, if I bought 20 packs of chips for $4.99, they are added to the canteen price list as Chips $0.25c per pack. Items such as Roll-Ups are more expensive, around $0.50c each. This way the kids understand the cost of the food they are eating."

Natalie's Memory Game

"I developed a free memory game for my niece as a Christmas present that doesn't cost anything!

"I will be laminating my gift as my niece still likes to put things in her mouth, but as a cheaper alternative you could cover them in 'contact' or simply print them out on heavier card. You need to print two copies of each page in order to play memory. Cards could also help with letters (both capitals and lowercase recognition), practising words with children or colours and the alphabet." (Natalie Hingee)
